I needed a new hard drive for my HP dv6110us laptop and couldn’t figure out which one to buy. I wanted a larger one than I previously had (100G) and preferably a faster one (5400) but was worried because I had read about someone who upgraded their speed to 7200 and their laptop was way too hot and they wished they hadn’t done it. I asked my guru brother (programmer with an international computer company) and he recommended a Hitatchi and said I shouldn’t have any problem with heat. I trust his knowledge and bought this hard drive.

1st, it fit perfectly. I had read any 3 1/2 inch drive would work but still was a bit concerned not using an OEM. I simply opened my hard driver cover, removed the old one, put the hard drive holder and adapter thingy (where it plugs into the laptop motherboard) onto the new hard drive, popped it in place and I was ready to go.

2nd, it runs cooler than my old one did. With the original hard drive, if my laptop was on for a while, it would get warm in spite of the laptop stand I used. This new Hitachi has never even felt warm to the touch.

3rd, it is definitely quiet. I can’t hear it at all.

The only thing I can’t really speak to right now is if the increase in speed from 5400 to 7200 makes the battery life worse because my laptop is nearly always plugged in. The battery life has never been great and I don’t use it much away from a plug. If I ever actually use it on battery and can say one way or another I will try to come back and update this.

Overall, this product gets two thumbs up…. I’d give it more, but all I have is two. I recommend this highly!
