I bought this by accident when reviewing it. I hit the one click order button thinking I hit add to cart. Well I don’t mind, for the price it was worth a try.
I got it and my 120GB SSD and gave it a whirl. I upgraded from a 60GB drive to the 120GB drive. I have Windows 7 Home Premium x64 on a Sony Vaio CW with a Core i5 540m CPU and 6GB of RAM.
I found two important things to note. Number one is that any USB flash drive, external drive, SD card, Memory Stick, or similar must be taken out first. The software will assume that it is a part of the hard drive and want to allocate space for it. Then on reboot it will have a problem from not being able to find those ‘partitions’ and cancel the operation.
Second, I have a second partition on my computer mapped as B:/, since I know I’ll never otherwise use it. Once the clone was complete and the drive replaced, Windows rebooted no problem. The only issue was that my B:/ was now H:/, so I remapped it to the B:/ drive before doing anything else and restarted the computer.
After that, all was exactly as it was before, only bigger and faster! My old SSD ranked as a 5.9, the new one ranks a 7.4!
Later I decided to take my other SSD and put it in my wifes computer. SSDs are very fast. Her computers hard drive was a 250GB and I was going to transfer to that 60GB SSD. She was only using about 30GB. First thing I had to do was defrag the 250GB so then I could use the shrink volume using the Windows 7 manage feature. I was only able to shrink the volume to 110GB, but the included software has a feature in the cloning feature that proportionally resizes the partitions. The reason I had to shrink the volume first was because the drive is significantly smaller. Basically the new drive was half the size of the partition, so the program made the partition half as big ~ 55gb. This fit just fine. I put in the SSD into my wifes computer, and it worked perfectly as before!
Overall, it was very easy to use, and I am happy that I bought it. Making clones of drives is a great way to back up your computers!
